Course Description

We all know about the stress response, what we feel when our mind calculates we don't have the resources to meet the current demand, but what's the opposite of the stress response? The answer is the relaxation response, something we have to concentrate on and deliberately switch on. It is important to remember that the stress response is generated from the non conscious part of our brain, we might not think we are stressed but the reaction in our body may tell a different story!

Use the narration where you can practice without being disturbed, laying down comfortably on a bed or a rug on the floor. It is fully downloadable onto any device.

I use this exercise as an introduction to the mindfulness training, and as the first part of the online training course available on my web site for people struggling with chronic pain who might not be able to see us at our practice Integrative Pain Care in Remuera Auckland

Dr Nick Penney holds a PhD in Musculoskeletal Medicine from The Australian Centre of National Research on Disability and Rehabilitation Medicine, School of Medicine, University of Queensland. His research focussed on the Biopsychosocial model of pain and the obstacles to recovery from low back pain. This understanding that the 'whats going on' in our lives is highly predictive of our ability to recover from pain led to training in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy with Professor Mark Williams to compliment his own mindfulness practice. Dr Nick is also vocationally registered in Pain Management in New Zealand and a member of The International Society for the study of Pain (IASP).
